Accesing Champex by bus or train Flying to Switzerland Travelling by car If you’re used to the vagaries of the British public transport system you will find getting around Switzerland a delight. Trains roll into the station just as the second hand reaches the designated time, the carriages are clean and modern and finding a seat is never a problem. Bus timetables operate in sympathy with train arrival and departures providing seamless connections. You can plan an end-to-end route on line by visiting www.sbb.ch which is a model for how all public transport web sites should operate.
Having raised your expectation a note of realism should be injected. Champex-Lac is a mountain village with a residential population of around 150. There is no train station and buses operate to coincide with the school run. If you are planning to come to use Champex as a base to relax and walk in the local mountains trails then using public transport is fine. But if you are planning to explore a wider area or use Champex as a base to ski in Chamonix or Verbier then although it is possible to use public transport a car is recommended. |
