During the summer the lake is the focal point of the village. Boats are available to hire and there is fishing too. Forte D'artillerie de Champex Lac

Artillery Fort
Champex - FortDiscover a fascinating underground fortress. Built between 1940 and 1943 it was built to protect the two potential penetration roads to the area of Grand Saint-Bernard and Val Ferret (Switzerland). The fortification was used by the Swiss army until 1988. It is entirely burrowed in the rock, and it has more than 600m of corridors and rooms within the mountain. The fortification has four shooting casemates which are divided into two batteries. The last time that the 10.5cm guns were fired was in 1986. The garrison of the fort has varied between 150 and 300 men in the course of time. Champex Lac Switzerland

Martigny

A Roman Town
Martigny is the nearest town to Champex Lac. It has been established since Roman times as a major commercial centre. Here you will find many Roman remains, in particular the amphitheatre. It is situated between the Mont-Chemin Forest and a hillside of terraced vines. Martigny has a population of 15,000 and The modern town has a population of 15,000. It has grown up on a bend of the Rhone rive and it is dominated by the Bâtiaz Tower, a 13th-century fortress, The older quarters have preserved their original character. Martigny near to Champex Lac

Les Gorges du Durnand

Champex - WaterfallThe installations dating back to 1877 were totally renovated in 1987 in order to ensure maximum safety. They are certainly worth a visit.

A visit takes approximately an hour, and it is possible to return by a footpath. This promenade with its galleries extending for about one kilometre leads past fourteen waterfalls of this rough and raging torrent. A recently constructed bridge makes it possible to cross the Durnand and to admire this natural beauty from close up.

Skiing

Skiing In Champex Lac, Switzerland
The Swiss ski resort of Champex-Lac is one of the friendliest ski stations in Switzerland and has access to 15km of downhill piste. With skiing above 2000 metres, snow cover is generally reliable.
